New article - How to access dialogs with admin rights without logging off the user

Posted by dglenn on Friday 21 July 2006 - 19:42:28

Do you know how to open multiple dialogs with Administrator credentials with only one "RunAs" command?

If you do, then you can skip this article. If not, then I have posted a "How-To" for novices and even experienced administrators that will expand their support capabilities and eliminate the need to log a user off and log in under your ID to get a task accomplished.

I wrote this up the other day after assisting a PC Support technician with a remote support session at a clients. He was frustrated by having to log the user off and log in to make a change then log back off and log the user back in to test the changes.

Having worked with PCs for 20 years I have picked up a number of shortcuts that are second nature to me, so much so I often don't realize others don't know them but would love to know how to do it.

I don't cover every command available since it varies from one system to another but I do cover the basics that are installed by default on most systems. Experimentation once you know how is simple and you can easily build on this knowledge. So without further ado, the article is located here and you are welcome to use it. It is also available as a download for members in .DOC format so you can expand on it for your own environment and people. This is a free service for members and clients.

I don't like using 100% on a table cell when I have a pixel width defined in the other cell so rather than defining the 100% I just hide a large div at the bottom to push out the edge.
